The common misconception about kinky hair is that you must have good hair to make it curly and bouncy.
The reality is most African-American were all born with some type of curl rather its kinky, curly or wavy but it’s some type of curl pattern that we were born with.
This misconception is absolutely incorrect but we most take care of our hair and in return we will have curly bouncy hair. Also, we must accept those kinks and curls that are coming from our scalp.
It took a lot of long hours of watching all types of you tube videos realizing these kinky hair tutorials all have something in common. Whether they’re in the shower rinsing their hair with water and adding product or if they’re standing in front of the mirror misting their hair with lots of water and adding products. I have spent lots of money on products hoping they will help with giving my hair the moisture it needs. Then I realize that the one thing we were taught as an African-American girl is to stay away from water and that is the main ingredient needed to curl and moisturize.
I was taught to stay away from water because at a young age my hair was straight and to keep my hair from reverting back to its natural curl. I was told I needed to stay away from water which means water is the enemy. As an adult I’ve learned that I need to wash my hair more and use lots and lots of water for my hair to maintain a curly look. Water is not the enemy is actually the main thing that I love in my hair now.
Now knowing that when it rains I don’t have to run from the water or when it’s time to shower I don’t have to cover my hair from the water. I actually embrace it and I embrace every kink and curl that I have. Once I did that my hair has been absolutely amazing.
Just another kinky girl problem.
